The Critical Languages Program was created in order to meet the need for instruction in less commonly taught languages (LCTLs) which are not offered either by traditional departments or formats at the University of Arizona. All basic language courses emphasize speaking and aural comprehension at the elementary and intermediate levels while a writing component is incorporated at the advanced level. Languages offered vary from semester to semester and year to year, depending upon student demand. (quote from Critical Language Program)
The Thai language program is part of the Critical Language Program at the University of Arizona. Fall 2010 Semester, all Thai classes are conducted as "Distant Learning" format. Students in all courses are assigned chapters from the book (s) to study in addition to material online via this website and other resources. Students are expected to spend a minimum ob four (4) hours in self-study. Students may communicate with the teacher via e-mail for assistance.
Each class meets with the teacher/tutor once a week to practice the language learned using "Skype" as a main tool. The teacher may use other program such as ADOBECONNECT and Dropbox for homework and test.
